Your game ,as you were instructed in class, could be about number bonds to 100, times tables, fractions & decimals, fractions & percentages, divisors/ factors of numbers, common multiples etc. See the picture attached below for more information. Also, you may use resources from school to help you at home (lolly sticks, paper, cards). Sinterklaas surprises:  We will be making ‘surprises’ to celebrate Sinterklaas day  in ISB! According to the Dutch tradition, adults and children make or buy a present for someone in their family. Likewise, we will organise surprises in our class which will be revealed on the 5th of December.  Everyone’s name will be put into a hat and everyone picks another person’s name – You will have to make at home a surprise present for that person. The presents are often things that the person would find useful with their favourite hobby. What is more, the presents should be wrapped in a fun way (e.g. for someone who likes football in a football. The presents come with a poem ( ”sinterklaasgedicht”, starting with Dear.. and signed with Sint en Piet not with your name) inside that gives a clue to who might have sent the present, but it is all meant to be a mystery! The amount for the present is around 6 euros. Your surprise should be prepared at home (it’s a secret) and you must bring it in school at the latest in the week of Nov 29- Dec 2. Yoy can enjoy the surprises in class after Sinterklaas has visited on Dec 5. sinterklaas-surprises

For IPC: Read and consider the statements written below. Prepare some reasons for and against each statement. Next week we are going to hold a class debate on the following statements. You need to think, give and write (in your book or in a piece of paper) some strong arguments, explaining your views.

Statements:

  • We think that there is plenty of energy in the world
  • We think that people use more and more energy every year
  • We think rich countries use more energy than poorer countries
  • We think that burning fossil fuel is harming the planet
  • We think that only grown-ups need to save energy

This piece of homework is due to the 29th of November.

Best wishes,

Ms Chalkiopoulou

Weekly Learning objectives

Dear parents & students,

This week we will:

In Numeracy:

  • Understand that a fraction where the numerator is greater than the denominator is called an improper fraction and can be converted to a mixed number (a whole number with a fractional part) and add fractions with the same denominator, writing the answer as a mixed number.
  • Calculate the perimeter, area and volume of shapes, and know their units of measurement.
  • Understand that shapes can have the same perimeters but different areas and vice versa.
  • Calculate the area of a triangle using the formula A = 1/2 b × h

In Literacy:

  • Role play a character to empathise with a situation
  • Write a diary entry in role as a character
  • Discuss situations characters find themselves in and write a letter in role as Alfie.

Have a great week.

Regards,

Ms Chalkiopoulou

Homework 18/11/2016

Dear students,

Your Homework for next week is:

In Numeracy: Complete the worksheet you were given on Friday the 18th of November. For further practice find this online Nrich Maths activity: ”Play connect three” https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/player?id=498802&file=http://nrich.maths.org/5864&type=abacus_nrich_link&fullscreen=0&allocId=0&tools=undefined&previewBeforeOpen=undefined&isProductPreview=undefined&eventOrigin=false&resOpenIndex=0&moduleID=261690&resTypeID=6&specialID=6&resThumb=/images/genericicons/generic_nrich_icon.png&closeButton=none&ver=201611040524&fileID=498802&product=abacus&resourceFrame=undefined&frameless=undefined&newWindow=true&platformUrl=https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/planning#abacus:play(498802%7C%7C%7C%7C%7C%7C%7C0)&flashWarning=false

In IPC: On the topic of Oil we are currently studying the geology of rocks. All rocks are different and we know that geologists locate areas of oil by studying the types of rock in an area. We would like to have a class collection of different types of rock to examine in class. We are looking for rocks in different colours, shapes and weight. We will look closely at the samples on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon on the 23rd & 24th of November respectively.

In Literacy: Find 5 interesting facts about World War 1. You can present this piece of work in whichever way you wish, e.g. poster, bullet points, PP, drawings or other. The due date is on Wednesday the 23rd of November.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Best wishes,

Ms Chalkiopoulou

Weekly learning Objectives

Dear parents & students,

This week we will in:
