Hello everybody,

It is Friday once again.  This week we have been thinking about Valentine’s Day.  We have been talking about why and how people celebrate it.  We even made a Valentines cookie for our grown-ups!

Next week we will be going on our trip to experience a bus and train ride.  The trip will be on Tuesday.  We will go to Rosendaal park for a picnic and then return back to school.

Next week is the last week of school before the holidays and out focus will be on Carnaval.  We finish at 12pm on Friday for the holidays.  On Friday we will also be celebrating Carnaval – a traditional Dutch festival. On Friday the children are invited to come to school wearing dressing up clothes for a Carnaval party.  Unfortunately parents are not invited to the Carnaval party.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend,

Miss Johnson.

Hello everbody,

I hope you have all had a good week.  This week we have been focusing on bikes.  Miss Kelly brought her bike into school and we talked about all of the different parts.  We talked about how to ride a bike and the children shared their experiences.

Next week we will be taking a small break from Transport to think about Valentine’s Day.

You may have seen in the news letter that we are going on a trip on Tuesday 21st February.  We are looking for parents to come and help us.  We will be going on the bus and then the train to Roosendal where we will visit a park for a small walk and our packed lunch.  Please come and let a member of staff know if you would be interested in helping us.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend,

Miss Johnson.

Hello everybody,

We have had a great week learning about car.  Today we tried to make a car for Lucy Bear ready for going home with a member of our class this afternoon.  On Tuesday we went on a train ride with Mr Schelterns in Dutch.  We made our own OV chip cards and Mrs Schelterns make a train for us – It was good fun!

Next week we will be focusing on bikes.  Please talk to your child about bikes at home.  Do they have a bike?  Can they ride a bike?  Perhaps you could go for a bike ride this weekend.

All children now have a Mathletics and Reading Eggs account and the login details are in the front of their yellow reading diaries.  If you have not looked at it yet perhaps you could take a look this weekend.

Before the Christmas holidays we sent home the children’s rain clothes and spare clothes to be checked.  If you have not yet returned these back to school could you please do so next week.

I have been asked if I can add notifications to this blog.  I am not sure how to do this so have asked Mr Maddocks for help and he will look into it.  Until then I aim to update the blog every Friday.  If I don’t manage to do this I usually update it on a Saturday morning.  So to keep updated checking the blog over the weekend would be the best time.

Kind regards,

Miss Johnson.

Hello everybody,

I hope you are all enjoying the weekend.  We spent the last week thinking about trains.  The children enjoyed making train tickets and using them to go on an adventure.

Next week we will be continuing our transport topic by thinking about cars.

I have been asked this week about what you should be currently expecting from you children.  At ISBreda we follow the UK curriculum for Early Years Education.  A UK charity called 4 Children (supported by the UK Department for Education) produced a booklet for parents to explain the curriculum titled What To Expect When.  It breaks down the Early Years curriculum and explains how they believe children should be developing linked to their age.  There is a link to this document here: http://www.foundationyears.org.uk/2015/03/what-to-expect-when-a-parents-guide/  I hope this will be useful for you.

Kind regards,

Miss Johnson.

Hello everybody,

Last week was a fantastic week especially as we all flew to Milan!  As part of our IPC topic about transport we spent the week focusing on aeroplanes.  We made an airport and an aeroplane which we used for our make-believe journey to Milan.  We took our boarding passes and passports and jetted off on an adventure.

This week we will be focusing on trains and train journeys.  Please talk to your child about trains.  Have they ever been on a train?  If they have not then perhaps you could go on a train journey together.

Wishing you all a great week.

Kind regards,

Miss Johnson.

Hello everybody and a Happy New Year to you all!

I hope to everybody had a fantastic and relaxing Christmas break.  It has been great to get back to school and we have all enjoyed the first week back.

We have a new IPC topic starting next week – Transport.  We will be starting the topic by thinking about aeroplanes.  We have turned our role-play area into an airport and will be linking aeroplanes to our literacy lessons too.

Please talk to your child about transport and particularly aeroplanes.  Have they ever been on an aeroplane?  Where did they go?  How long did it take?  What happened when they were on the plane?  Did they eat?  Or sleep?

I hope that everybody has a lovely weekend.  Enjoy playing in the snow whilst it lasts.

Kind regards,

Miss Johnson.

Hello everybody,

I hope you are all enjoying the weekend.

We had a lovely week in school last week.   The Christmas Concert was fantastic.  Thank you to everybody who helped to make it such a success especially to the parents who helped to make the costumes.  The costumes looked fantastic!  I hope that you enjoyed watching as much as we enjoyed taking part.

For the next 2 weeks we will be focusing on Christmas craft activities.  We will still have some numeracy and literacy sessions along with daily phonics however the focus will be on preparing for Christmas.

Reading books and library books have now been collected back from most children.  These will be given out again in January.  During the next week the books will all be checked and the book lists will be updated.  Therefore children do not need to bring their book bags to school until January.  We will still check their bear words once per week so keep practicing those at home.

Kind regards,

Miss Johnson.

Hello everybody and happy Friday!

This week we were very excited because Sinterklaas and the Pieten came to visit us on Wednesday night!  They left a mess in our classroom!  They had been playing with our toys!  They also left oranges and pepernoten (small spicy biscuits) inside our boots!

We started a new poetry book in Literacy.  This wee we looked at a poem called Dressing Too Quickly.  We learnt the poem by heart and wrote sentences about it.  We have been learning about leaving a space between each word when we write.

In numeracy we focused on ‘1 more’.  We used resources to help us to find out 1 more than a given number and also tried to a the answer by remembering which number comes next when we count.  The number lines in the classroom also helped us.

We have been very busy rehearsing for our Christmas Concert.  The concert will take place on Friday 9th December at 10am.  Please come along to watch us.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend,

Miss Johnson.

Hello everybody,

It has been a short week this week as school is closed tomorrow for teacher training.

This week we have finished our work on Biscuit Bear by changing some of the words to make our own story about Biscuit Dog!  We have been busy using our phonic skills to try to read and write small words and sentences.

In numeracy we have been learning about money.  We focused on Euros and Cent.  We learnt the names of each coin and used them to buy things.  If you are out shopping with your child this weekend ask them to help you to find the coins that you need.

We have been busy practicing our songs for the Christmas concert on the 9th December.  We have now allocated the parts to the children (although the children have not yet been told.)  Our parent helpers will be in touch with you shortly to let you know what your child will be and how you can help them to prepare a costume.

I hope you all have a lovely long weekend.

Kind regards,

Miss Johnson.

Hello everybody,

I hope you have all had a good week and than the children who went to the disco had a fantastic time.  I know that they were all very excited because they have been talking about it all day.

I would like to say a big thank you to Ines’s mum who led Rhyme Time for us today.  We had a Portuguese Rhyme Time today complete with songs, a flag and cookies.  If you would like to have a turn at leading Rhyme Time in your home language please let us know.

This week we have continued our work on Biscuit Bear.  The children are now experts at retelling this story.  We will be doing our final week on this book next week.

In numeracy we talked about months and seasons.  This would be an excellent thing to talk about with the children at home especially as we are moving from autumn to winter.

We have been starting to learn our Christmas songs for the Christmas concert on the 9th December.  Not long to go now!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend,

Miss Johnson.
