Science Unit: Little Thing

I loved this unit because I learned so much interesting thing. I learned about animal and plant cells and their differences, Organelles, Lab reports, Microscopes, Specialized cells and their adaptation, How to prepare a slide, Mrs. Nerg, How to draw and label cells and understand them all really well.

Science Self-Assessment

My name:  Lucas Oosterhoff              Date:   November 18, 2016

The unit I have just finished is:

Introduction to science

My score in the end of unit test was:

6 of the 8

For the lab report, I got:  B  4 and C 4

I was happy / not happy with these results because:

I am disappointed because I know I am capable of more

In general:

How am I doing?

I think I need to step up my game

What am I good at?

I am good at recording and doing the experiment

How do I know I am good at these things?

I know because I have accurate answers and the experiment went flawlessly

I found the previous unit – Introduction to Science…….

I found it useful because it in introduced me to science. I have never used real science tools and can’t wait to use them again.

What I found difficult was……

Making the lab report because there are so many things I need to add to the lab report.

What helped me when I had a problem was……

The feedback Mrs. Doherty gave me on my formative lab report

What I enjoyed in this unit was………

Was doing the experiment and recording the data.

What I didn’t like in this unit was………

Lab report, Although it is cool to write about my experience and finding.

What do I need to work on?

I need to work on writing my lab report and getting a 6 or a 5

How do I know that I need to work on these things?

Because I did not get a very good grade on my final lab report

How am I going to achieve these targets?

By seeing the things I did wrong on this lab report and making sure I don’t do it on the next one.

What time scale am I going to set myself to complete these targets?

Before Christmas, I want to at least get above a 4 and a 5

Are completing self-assessments like this useful for your development in Science?  Why?

Very because I am setting goals and writing down what I need to work on.  And the next time I have to write and lab report I can check here to see what I need to improve.

All About Me

Hi, I am Lucas, I am 11. I am half Dutch and Costa-Rican and have a younger brother and sister. This is my First year in Holland and at ISB. My hobbies are tennis, swimming, scuba diving, piano and anything to do with coding. I really enjoy MYP 1 I have the best teachers. My favorite food is my mom’s homemade pizza. My favorite movie is Kingsman and my favorite tv show is Game Of Thrones

This is my dog she is a Chocolate Labrador

My mom is a perfectionist which does not go very well with my dog Jackie. Jackie is a Chocolate Labrador, but I prefer to call her Jackie-Saurus Rex because she would most likely eat everything that she sees, for example, once she tried to eat the dinner table which got Jackie a one-way ticket to the back yard. My family and I love to take Jackie to the desert where she can run around freely, but after what she did we are scared that she would start eating the sand.

My Awesome New Bike

My  new bike a “GIANT XTC JR 2 24’’. This bike was given to me as a surprise gift this week.

The first features that I caught with my eyes was the sporty lining and its astonishing 14 Gears. Adjusting the saddle to my height was a piece of cake with its designated handle. While riding it I did not feel like the concrete road that I was riding, it felt like I was flying. Throughout my ride I was able to enjoy the sounds of nature around me as the bike is as silent as a tiptoeing mouse.

I give this bike the maximum of 5 star. I have the 4 s’s that anyone would wish for: it has Style, it has speed, it is sporty, and last but not least it is safe. I will definitely ride it as much as I can. I think that this bike is the coolest bike I have ever owned. I am confident I am going to enjoy this magnificent bike.

My Favorite Book

This is the 10th book in the series of “Diary of a wimpy kid”, and it was again a great read. I finished the book i just four days. It made me laugh out loud, scared me and made me think about things many times.

The Plot

The autobiography starts with Greg Heffley, the main character, explaining his life, family life to be more precise. Greg lives in a small town. The setting of the book is either at home, or at school in this small town. Greg’s grandfather has moved in with the Heffley’s, since his retirement house has become too expensive. This has forced Greg to move out of his own room and he finds himself in a room with his little brother Manny. He even has to sleep on a thin mattress in a sleeping bag. Having his grandfather in the house has caused Greg’s dad to stress out and be extra harsh. Getting mad at Greg for no reason at all.

On top of all this, Greg’s mom seems to long for the “good old days”, when everything was much better, especially without so many electronic devices. Mom decided to introduce an “unplug weekend”. It’s a weekend with no electronic devices! Greg is bored to the bone, and because of this he finds himself in all sorts of silly events. The worst one being when Greg crashes his dad’s car accidentally when removing the handbrake. This part made me think about my life now. We have electronic devices around us every day, and I can’t imagine not using them or even not having them at all. We use computers at school on a daily basis. My parents didn’t even own a computer at my age.

With all these  unfortunate events, and Greg not being happy at home, he decides to join the school camping trip after all. However things are not much better there, especially when he learns about Silas Scratch. It’s the part I found most scary. Greg describes Silas Scratch in great detail. What I remember most is that Silas Scratch lives in a very dark part of the forest, where no light comes through due to the many tall trees. It is so quiet and cold there that one could even hear you breathe. Silas Scratch has disgustingly long fingernails and eats slugs and berries. I will not say too much as it will give away the ending.

The Characters

Greg Heffley:
An indoor person, a gamer, sneaky, disobedient but mature and well mannered. Not very smart and always gets himself in trouble. He has thin, brownish hair and brown eyes.

Frank Heffley:
Greg’s dad. A rough person who loves sports and knows everything about World War I and II. An introvert. Not very tall, blonde, and always agitated.

Susan Heffley:
Greg’s mom. Strict, active, smart, a book worm, creative and very environmentally aware. She wears blue glasses, has brown hair and has a large nose.

Mr. Jefferson:
Rowley’s dad (Rowley is Greg’s best friend). He hardly appears in this book. Mr. Jefferson is a grumpy man who gets irritated very quickly. He is tall, has crazy curly hair and a moustache.

I like Greg the best. He may not be the most popular boy, but that doesn’t stop him from trying. He has a great sense of humour, and I like that he gets into all sorts of trouble, for making so many silly choices.

I dislike Mr. Jefferson the most, he depresses me. He always seems to be in a very bad mood and complains about everything.

Overall I give this book 4.5 stars! I enjoyed it a lot and I would recommend this book to everyone who like a fast paced read. It is funny, and at times serious and scary.
