Science reflection – The Right Hooke

What did you enjoy in this unit?

I enjoyed learning about Hooke’s law because I heard of it many times however never knew what it actually was. I enjoyed the experiments to find out if the extension of a spring is directly proportional to the stretching force (Hooke’s law).

What did you find easy?

I found the experiments easy because all you had to do was find the extension of a spring, however fun because the results  were interesting.

What did you find difficult?

I found writing the lab report quite difficult because it takes lots of time to get a good grade and you have to understand all experiments and all results.

What helped you when you got stuck?

When I got stuck I would just simply ask miss for help and that would solve my problem.

What did you learn in this topic?

I learnt how to test Hooke’s law by testing out an experiment.

How could you make this topic easier for yourself if you were to do it again?

If I would do this again I think that I would write down more detailed results which would then make it easier to write the lab report.

What skills have you acquired in this topic?

I have acquired a few skills such as writing a detailed lab report and writing down detailed results.

What if anything do you think you have become better at doing in this topic?

I have made an improvement by asking my teacher more questions which then made me understand this unit a lot more.

What do you think you should work more on having finished this unit?

I think that I should improve on taking even more detailed results because that would make my lab report better and it would be easier for me.

Science reflection

What did you enjoy about this unit?

I enjoyed learning about CPR because it was very handy and it is important to know too. We also learnt some interesting stuff about our own pulse rate.

What topics did you cover in this unit?

We covered CPR, information about our pulse rate, information about our veins, writing  a lab report, information about our arteries and information about our heart beat.

What were you good at?  How do you know you were good at this?

I was good at doing CPR on a doll because Mr.Will (Owner of the doll) said I was good. I was also good at recording results for my pulse.

What did you find difficult?

I found writing the lab report a bit tricky because of the structure because every year we get told to do something different by different teachers. I also found it tricky to know all of the different names of arteries and veins near our heart.

What helped you when you got stuck?

At the start of this unit we were given a paper full with information about what we were going to learn so if I got stuck I would just look at that sheet to help me. If I was still stuck I would try to think back and look back in my science notebook.

What skills did you learn in this unit?

I learnt how to do CPR on a doll so if I was in a situation where that was necessary I would know what to do. We also found out how to write a lab report how miss wants us to write one.

What do you think you still need to look at?

I still need to have a quick look over the way the heart pumps and how it takes all of the blood around our body.

What are you proud of in this unit?

I am proud of knowing how to do CPR and writing the lab report in the correct format.

What do you know now that you didn’t know at the start of this unit?

I learnt to do CPR and I now know more about the how the heart pumps blood around our body.

Unit 5 reflection Maths

Reflection:

What did you enjoy about this unit?

  • I enjoyed working in groups of 2-3 because then I feel more confident and I like to combine different ideas to make a final presentation.

What topics did you cover in this unit?

  • I covered working with geometry and how geometry can actually be used and we learnt how different artists use geometry in their own way. This unit we also learnt how to draw and design our own stained glass window.

What were you good at?  How do you know you were good at this?

  • I was good at presenting the presentation in a clear toned voice. I know this because of the feedback that I received from classmates. I was also good at making my final draft for my stained glass window because I made it very clear, neat and I covered all the features that were asked to be covered. I know this because of grades and feedback from the teacher.

What did you find difficult?

  • I did not really get too stuck on anything but I did have some difficulties with knowing all of the different shapes and lines for my stained glass window glossary.

What helped you when you got stuck?

  • I did not really get stuck but if I got stuck I tried to research the problem or ask my team mate.

What skills did you learn in this unit?

  • In this unit I learnt how to be more organized and how to feel even more confident when presenting in front of a class.

What do you think you still need to look at?

  • I still need to have a little look at all of the different lines and shapes just to make sure that they are perfectly known.

What are you proud of in this unit?

  • This unit I am proud of the grades and my final product such as my stained glass window. My final products that I created during this unit are all clear and neat.

What do you think you may be able to improve on for next time?

  • Next time I think that I would try to learn all of the text on the presentation which will able me to tell more about the artists which would be good. Maybe I could have explained the glossary for my stained glass window more by adding more information about how I used the shapes in my design.

What do you know now that you didn’t know at the start of this unit?

  • I learnt more about different lines and shapes and how to draw them. I also learnt how how to communicate better in a pair and how to divide work equally.

Jonas and his situation in the community

Jonas is going through a lot at the moment, the main thing that bothering him is all the memories he is being given by the previous receiver of memory. Jonas has been given good memories, bad memories and painful memories. Joanas has a list of rules that he has to follow and one of them that bothers him is that he is not allowed to give someone else a memory, however, he did give a memory to Gabriel. Jonas is allowed to lie to the previous receiver of memory by saying that he did not give a memory to anyone but he did. Jonas is now in a complicated position because he has lied which is allowed but he gave a way one of his memories to Gabriel which is not allowed.

Jonas is now in a risky position because if the previous receiver of memory finds out he will not be very happy. Jonas has put himself at risk by giving Gabriel a memory to help him get to sleep, however, it does not mean that he is allowed to do that. Jonas did get Gabriel to sleep, by giving him a memory. If I was Jonas I would seriously not know what to do, I might of lied or I might of said that I did something that I was not allowed to do but I would be scared of the reaction from the previous receiver of memory. I would try to talk to my parents and tell them how I am not very comfortable with this and ask them what I should do. If nothing could be changed I would have to live my life the way it is and accept it by getting used to the rules.

When we get to the end of the book, I think that Jonas would have changed the communities rules. I think that Jonas could have got rid of the release and told everyone what it actually is. I think that the community will change a lot and that the community will turn out to look like our community now.

Ebola reflection

What did you enjoy in this unit?

I enjoyed presenting my presentations and researching all the information.

What did you find easy?

I found the research and understanding easy to follow.

What did you find difficult?

I sometimes got nervous presenting my presentations but at the same time I enjoy it.

What helped you when you got stuck?

When I got stuck I either asked miss or used google to answer my questions that I did not completely follow correctly.

What did you learn in this topic?

During this unit I learnt all the effects of a virus and a bacteria. And the main differences and similarities between a virus and a bacterium. My knowledge has been built up by understanding better what a virus and a bacterium actually is.

How could you make this topic easier for yourself if you were to do it again?

I would like to build up my confidence which just takes time to practice standing up and telling information to the class. Which I would practice in the future.

What skills have you acquired in this topic?

Confidence, layout of slides, bullet points on slides and researching.

What if anything do you think you have become better at doing in this topic?

Confidence has improved and my layout of my slides.

What do you think you should work more on having finished this unit?

Lay out of slides and confidence are then main skills that can be worked on.

Science Reflection

  1.  How am I doing?
  2.  What am I good at?
  3.  How do I know I am good at these things?
  4.  What do I need to work on?
  5.  How do I know that I need to work on these things?
  6.  What targets do I want to set myself?
  7.  How am I going to achieve these targets?
  8.    What time scale am I going to set myself to complete these targets?
  9.  Are completing self-assessments like this useful for your development in Science?
  • I really liked this unit because we were involved in many interesting experiments. I learnt quite a lot about safety and how strict the rules are in the lab and I because of that I know that I really have to pay attention. This unit has taught me things and balanced out my concentration. I also improved my work and my handwriting because if we had an assessment miss would just give you lower marks because of messy work so I really concentrated and tried my best on those things that I need to work on.
  • I am good at handing in homework on time and taking part in a group discussion because I am good at organizing and working with others in a fair way.  I am good at group discussion because I stand up and believe in my opinion so if everybody disagrees I wills still say what I think.
  • I am getting good comments from teachers and good feedback so I believe that I am doing well on these skills that are good to have. From the feedback that I am receiving I keep on trying to improve so I just keep getting better and better which is good I supose.
  • I need to work on little things such as using a ruler when asked to and drawing in pencil instead of pen, they are just little things but I really need to focus on improving them to get me even higher grades in science and maths. I also need to remember that every page should have a magine drawn on it.
  • My teacher tells me nearly every lesson so it makes me feel bad so then I know that I really have to remember and do it before she tells me and replying “oh yeah, I forgot”. I need to remember those little things myself because I am old enough to remember those things by now.
  • My target is to improve the quality and presentation of my work because I think that if I do that I will do so much better in science and all of my other subjects too.
  • I will practicing writing neater and working harder and putting way more effort into my work as possible. I will also try to think harder and really work on these little things that I need to improve.
  • Next self-assessment I will try to work on this but I will also practise at home and I will make sure that I will improve on this skills that need to be improved. I will take more time when doing these assessments so I will improve on these little targets.
  • Yes because it helps me think more and I then am able to finish the test in a good way.

Music-writing/recording song!

This unit in music we have been creating a song in groups, my group includes Ella and Rose-marie. We first had to write our song and then we had to make a beat and then we did all of the recording. After all of that we have to post it to youtube and show the rest of the people in our class. We had some problems with focusing but once we all put effort into focusing it was fine. We also had problems with the microphone and recording box because they suddenly stopped working so that was a bit annoying. Soon after that we got all of our equipment working again so we were back on track. Next time I would probably try to take it more serious and stop talking which wastes all of our time which we could be improving our work, but instead we were messing around. We all had quite a big problem with focusing so next time I would either work with someone else or try harder and harder to concentrate. Trying to find the right beat that could be fitted with our song was also a bit tricky because it did not sound very good at first. Later we edited our final product so it sounded better than the first product that was created by my group.

This unit was quite fun but there was nothing really to learn about this task. Next unit I hope that we can still be in groups but concentrate more to get a better final product.

Algebra-Reflection

I found this unit ok because somethings were challenging and some things were not. However I got myself confused with little things that made me make silly mistakes.I have learnt quite a lot this unit especially how to solve out real life problems by using algebra. I am not an expert at maths so I did not get the highest grade for the end of the unit test because again I got myself confused and that coursed me silly mistakes. I would like to ask more questions to my teacher to improve next unit even if I was slightly confused. I sometimes do struggle with concentrating so I do know I really have to try to concentrate more in class. I do not really enjoy algebra but I know that we need to learn it someday to find out what x equals etc. I am suspicious to what we will be doing next unit, I think that it will be something to do with circles… Algebra is easy once you get it but if you do not get it you can struggle and get yourself confused. However overall I did learn white a lot about algebra which is good:)

Monday:

On monday we went to the city and had a treasure hunt in the morning, I did not really enjoy that so much because it was really cold and a bit rainy. After the treasure hunt we went back to school and did a cooking workshop. I really enjoyed the cooking workshop because I like cooking. We made french crepes and croissants that were really good.

Tuesday:

On tuesday we went to Antwerp, first we had a tour and then we had a quiet around the MAS museum. I thought that the tour was quite interesting and I learnt some history of antwerp. The MAS museum was ok but we were all quite tired from the tour around Antwerp so we did not really enjoy it.

Wednesday:

On wednesday we had our service & action day. I really enjoyed our service and action day because our class went to teach dutch children some basic english. Our class and the little children really enjoyed teaching each other, that was a great successful day. We learnt that we have to be more organized.

Thursday:

On thursday we went to the theatre and watch Billy Elliot which I enjoyed because it was a good movie that we watched. I did not really learn anything from that though. At 12 we went back to school and I joined the face painting workshop which was really fun because I learnt some skills with face painting.

Friday:

On friday I was sick so I did not enjoy the fun activities.
I think that we should do more creative activities such as painting a sketching and instead of having a tour and the going to a museum we should get free time to shop or something like that.

End of unit reflection (science)

In this science unit we learnt a lot about drugs and the digestive system. I liked this unit because it had a creative side to it like colouring in the digestive system, I liked that. I found learning about drugs very interesting and I learnt a lot. I was quite good at naming the digestive system because I practiced at home, how to spell them and so on… I found some things hard such as naming all the things in a cigarette and naming many drugs. When I was stuck I had to stop and think. I learnt some new skills, those skills where naming different product/solutions in a cigarette. I need to do some revision on naming more drugs than I know, on the test I forgot a lot.
